Duncanopsammia Axifuga care
Hello!
I've read in more than one forum that duncan coral should be target fed despite of its symbiotic zooxanthellae. Mine opens more the day after I feed. Can you share your experience with this coral? Feeding routine, water flow, lightning, etc.
Mine is under med light/flow and I feed at least once a week:

Hello Achilles,
Duncan is as well one of my all time fav! It's a magnificent coral and, cherry on the cake, it grows quite well and fast!
I feed mine at least once a week by crumbling a whole mussel just above it. It can eat quite big bites!
As well, when I daily feed my fishes, as I cut the water flow and the water is still, I give the food above some of my LPS, for them to get bits that are not taken by the fish. So it can actually grab some small bites of brine shrimps or krill or mysis almost everyday
When I see other duncan on other tanks, I realize that the ones that are well fed have fat tentacles while the one that are not target fed have thinner ones.
here are some images of mine

From time to time, when they close for the night, they get a kind of perferct daisy shape, I love it:

Sabine,
Indeed beautiful pics! The fat polyps look so cool...
If you are right mine are quite fit! I will feed more and report here the results.
Do you target feed all polyps?
Cheers
PS.: Sammy and Nigel, where are the pics?

Re: Duncanopsammia Axifuga care
Mine is fed approx 2-3 times p/w with a variety of frozen foods, it eats almost anything although the shrimps do steal a lot of food from it. It's now around 25 heads and growing well, it started as 3 heads when I bought it. It has medium light and medium flow as it doesn't like too much flow, it's current position seems just right.
Pictures soon

Hello,
It seems not to be too aggressive with others corals, the red montipora is not disturbed by contact with it ?
Sam.

The red Monti is OK with the Duncans close by although the constant movement of the large polyps does irritate the Monti a little. Duncans is not aggressive at all.

Re: Duncanopsammia Axifuga care
Nice pic. I agree, not aggressive but It has an interesting way of protecting its skeletal against growing neighbors, It produces a mucus that avoids the other coral attaching to it. The same mucus makes harder handling/ fraging and is dangerous to the own animal while it is being transported. My Duncan when arrived was in water with terrible aspect.
